healthy relationship green flags

by Francisco Ramirez, MPH - Co-Founder of OkaySo

How do we know if we have a healthy relationship with someone, romantic or otherwise? Here are some green flags to look for:

Trust: you trust that person and they trust you.

Support: they are supportive of the things you do including work, school, hobbies and dreams.

Encouragement: they encourage you to try new things, go new places, meet new people if that’s something you want to do.

Listening: if you have something on your mind you want to talk about, they want to listen to your thoughts and feelings and don’t dismiss them or you.

Communication: when you have something you need to discuss, you’re able to do that clearly and honestly, even if it’s hard sometimes.

Autonomy: you have a life outside of your relationship to this person. They don’t need to be constantly in touch with texts, phone calls, location updates, etc.

Balance: you and this person are able to talk about your needs and work together to help both of your needs get met and compromise when you need to.

Work: you’re both committed to working on your relationship which means showing up when things are hard.

If this list made you think and you want to talk about a relationship in your life with someone, we’re here! Find our Dating & Relationship team on OkaySo and ask our experts.
